Root From Sense to Cyanogen?

I'm (at last) at the point where I have CM7 on my Desire. I've come from a very heavily personalised HTC Desire with Sense.

I liked the 7 screens. Does CM have any clever workarounds for this?

When restoring backed-up apps using Titanium, I just got an 'Out of memory' msg. I've formatted my SD with a half gig ext3 partition. I thought CM would automagically put apps onto that. Any thoughts on why that might not have worked?

Thanks, Richard

CM7 isn't a launcher, though it does come bundled with ADW launcher. If you want a launcher with more screens have a look on the market. I recommend launcher pro or go launcher as alternatives.

I find apps2sd unnecessary if you switch S-OFF and change the partition sizes inside the phone.

I have all the apps I need and over 100mb internal memory still free (110mb), without any third party apps2sd solutions. CM7 also includes an updated app manager that allows more data to be moved to the SD card, as it runs on android 2.3. You probably upgraded from 2.1 or 2.2

Cheers - I've found out that I can also increase the number of icons on each screen in CM, so 5 screens might be enough. If not, GoLauncher, here I come!

I've now got a problem where android.process.media FCs when trying to d/load & install off the market. I think I'm gonna be wiping again to fix it...

Download go launcher and have as many screens as you want. I've got 10.

Cm doesn't have a2sd+ as standard. Download simple2ext from market

I would rather only install stuff when I really need to, but... I don't want to tinker under the bonnet any more either (partly 'cos I'm worried about bricking, partly 'cos I can't take much more of this *nix technobabble.)

I assume S-OFF increases the chance of bricking?

In principle you can brick the phone while doing S-Off, same as in principle you can do that when rooting. In practice, while many people have had anxiety-inducing moments, I've never found anyone actually brick it.

Of course it depends on your usage. You can fit a lot of apps using a2sd even with the standard memory table, if you move the dalvik cache to sd-ext. I'm using the Oxygen memory table, so have 333 MB internal storage, but if I wanted to use that without ext I'd have to be more selective about my apps.

Bottom line is to do what suits you, but if you find space becomes restrictive you should remember that this option exists, and isn't that scary - most of the regulars here have done it.
