Has anyone figured out what video calling apps will work with the front facing camera? I tried ooVoo, fring, and tango but no success. Any suggestions, reasoning why this issue is present?

for whatever reason tango will not accept my phone number (US). Thats more of a personal problem I guess but if someone knows of how to work around that issue as well please let me know. I entered the country code (+1) and my area code and complete phone number but it wont accept?

Tango, Qik (Evo version) and Yahoo all work. Been in touch with Fring and they are working on it right now. when i use fring is defaults to the rear camera with no setting to change.

Yeah I tried Fring as well and same result. Hopefully this gets resolved soon or I figure out whats going on with my Tango account. I originally downloaded it on a previous phone without a front facing camera to the same number but i just upgraded and now its not accepting my number. I think this may have something to do with it. Awaiting Tango's reply. If others are having this issue I can provide a solution for them as well hopefully.

I notice the HTC Thunderbolt won't HOLD/SET to the Forward Facing Camera. If I select it - it goes back to the rear camera - that should be a hardware toggle anyway.

If you are confident you have no malicious apps there is the ripped beta skype mobile that I've found other than eating your battery alive works wonders for video calling

I connected perfectly on a video-call to a friend's Apple iPhone from my HTC Android Thunderbolt using Fring - just that he couldn't see my face...because no FFC....I could see HIS FACE and all he could see was my office (from my Rear Facing Camera).

I've used Skype Mobile and Yahoo, and both seemed to work fine for me. *shrugs*

I have Skype - but no video calls available - need to go between Android and iPhones with video conferencing for projects needing both forward and rear phone switch.

I'll give TANGO a shot - but I heard it seriously LAGS. If and when FRING updates the HTC Thunderbolt FFC issue - I will compare the two. Skype does not yet offer video calls on Android but I hear it is coming...like the proverbial "tomorrow".

I've had good luck with Tango and I just read a post on Gizmodo about Qik working across Android and iOS now. I use Tango to talk to my Daughter's on their iPod Touch cameras when I'm out of town.

Does anyone know if Tango is a battery hog?

Just read a story on Engadget that Fring has just launched group video calling in their app. Maybe the update will make it work on the TB

there's a apk on XDA with Skype working with FFC. I've used my TB to Skype with my wife on the iPad2... works, but there is some delay in audio.

i have fring and it works fine for me. i emailed the dev because orginally it wouldn't let me switch to my ffc and they emailed me beta apk that works fine now. also, i have skype and works fine. there just needs to be native g-chat that would work like facetime does for iphone. then skype, fring, yahoo, tango to communicate with other non android devices or to desktops

I found this a couple weeks ago and it works flawlessly from TB to Computer, I haven't tried from TB to TB, but its audio/video quality works amazing, 0 lag and audio is better than a phone call with speakphone on. My wife and I have been using skype 100% of the time when I'm on the road traveling instead of phone calls. Hopefully Verizon doesnt put up a stink with all the data I have been chewing through on 4G

How did you get a copy of the Qik (evo version)? The Qik in the market doesn't have video chat capabilities.

Used the new Fring update to talk to my wife over data on her Verizon iPhone and worked as well as I could expect. Just tried a 4 way group chat with a couple of guys in the office and my wife's line and worked pretty good. Couldnt really hear anyone, everyone in the office was too busy ogling it. One guy had a Dell Streak on ATT and the other was on an ATT Iphone 4 plus my TB and wifes VZW IP4.

    Pretty damn cool.
