Hello, this is my first post and I hope someone can help. I recently updated my Huawei U8800-51 Consumers Cellular phone from the 2.2 android version to the 2.3 version. After following the instructions I restarted my phone as required and it didn't completely load, so I again did the +, -, power to restart. Again it installed a second time and it seemed okay till I noticed that the wifi, gps, and bluetooth do not work. I've tried to again reinstall but now i only get a pink screen. I've tried the taking out the battery and connecting to the computer by usb without the battery and nothing changes. I also reformated the SD card. I also tried to find a source for the original 2.2 but Huawei is not much help. Any suggestions before I purchase a new phone? Thanks

Welcome to the forums, SZ. I've placed your query in the Ideaos 8800 area where others with a model close to yours may be experienced in the upgrade issues you're seeing.

Man, that's a toughy if you can't get it past a blank screen now. If you would have left it at the condition it was when bluetooth and wifi etc didn't work, you may have been able to do a hard reset via the privacy menu. ;)

Have you tried removing everything, including the SIM card (battery and sd card)? Take it all out and wait a bit, then put it all back in and try a normal boot up. If no success, do the same thing, only this time use the button combination to force a reset.

Here's the user guide for that phone, btw:

    https://www.consumercellular.com/Content/PDFs/Manuals/Huawei_8800_QSG.pdf

Let us know how things go. :)

Hi SZ2013, I see from your Post that you are in the USA. May be if you read this, you will find the answer to your problem:

Quote:[Well the update worked but screwed up my WiFi & Bluetooth.
I originally called Consumer Cellular to ask about the 2.2.2 to 2.3.5 Huawei upgrade & they said it was no problem (good thing because it is) After spending hours with them, I was given the number to Huawei support. They told me that the update is not intended for the USA phones & thus voids the warranty <sigh>
I called back Consumer Cellular & laid into them. They said that the warranty on the phone will be honored by them & to send them the phone back for repair.
So in conclusion...Huawei u8800 for the USA cannot be updated!]

This is from an earlier Thread, and as I have found, it pays to be very careful and seek advice BEFORE installing a Download which is NOT for your phone (model/area).
Sorry to say, but your best course of action will be as above.
I have found that Huawei DO give adequate warnings on their site and also in the Download upgrade. There is always an Info sheet (Pdf) which SHOULD BE OPENED & READ as they stipulate what will happen if the wrong Download is used in the wrong Model phone. :smokingsomb:
I have used the 2.3.5 upgrade in my (2) U8800 X5 phones here in NZ and they work fine. But U8800-51 is not suitable due to the phone being specific for USA.
    All the best. Neil.;)

Thanks for the info. I did find a fix to get back to Froyo 2.2.2 at XDA developers. Its called Froyo Original 2.2.2 and after downloading and reading the info on my phone that it is U8800 Pro, and very similar to the look of the 2.3 gingerbread. The wifi and gps are working so I'm Happy. Thanks again.

Hi SZ2013, Glad to see you got it back to normal. Are you saying that your phone is a Huawei Ideos U8800 X5 Pro?

    '+'Software'+' - '+'Huawei Device Co., Ltd..'+'

If you look at this Software from Huawei, you will see more than one Download for upgrade from Version 2.2.2.
That is why I stressed the need for extreme care when making the selection.
You must first correctly identify your phone model.

Thanks for your feedback - I hope others learn from your experience by reading this Post. Cheers Neil.

    Hi:
Could you give a step by step guide for this, with links for downloads ? I've done the same thing as you and have downloaded a package but have no idea how to install it ( if it is even the right one ).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks !

Hi fgleich, If you have Downloaded the correct version update for a Huawei U8800 Pro, is it on your comp?
If so, open the pack and you will see pdf. files. Open them and view them and make sure you follow the info provided. (I always print a hard copy - that way you shouldn't make any errors).
Ensure that the pack is correct for your phone version # (the info in the pdf tells you how to check).
Make sure your battery is fully charged and don't try and rush the procedure. It can take several minutes for the installation to finish - DON'T do anything until the message on the phone tells you.
    Best of luck Neil.;)

There are NO pdf files, and I think I have the wrong set of files. I'm looking for what SZ2013 described:

I'm wondering if someone could provide a link for this version of Android and some instructions on how they installed it to their phone :? I have the same phone from consumer cellular and mistakenly upgraded from 2.2.2 to 2.3.5 like SZ2013 did.

    Thank you in advance :)

Hi fgleich, If your phone is Cellular Network Huawei U8800-51 for North America, it is a "Dedicated" phone.
It will not run any other Firmware than Froyo 2.2.
If you cannot get THAT SPECIFIC Firmware, I would suggest you contact Cellular to seek a copy from them.

My Model - U8800, U8800 X5 can be played with (ROOTED and ROMMED)
Model U8800 PRO is very specific and it's ROM or upgrades CANNOT be used on any other U8800 Version.
Your U8800-51 is a base Firmware Froyo 2.2 and WILL NOT run ANY Upgrades.

I hope this clarifies it for you and as these phones have been out for some time now (4 years) it is getting harder to get info from Huawei.
    Best of luck. Neil.

Thanks for the reply nu2andy. I already know all that, and was asking for a link to the original Android version Froyo 2.2.2 that came with the phone.

SZ2013 found it at xda developers viz:

Now, Ive downloaded something from XDA developers that looks like a file system but cant figure out how to install.

I guess I was hoping for SZ2013 to reply with a link to the original version 2.2.2. Oh, and the upgrade does work except I have no wifi or bluetooth, which sucks

BTW, I've talked with consumer cellular and they're no help.

Again, thanks for your quick reply :)

so we will see what happens. Alternatively, I can purchase an identical phone on ebay for about 50 dollars, and could copy its files and then install on my phone, but I don't know how to do that, do you ?
    Thanks for any info

Using a File Manager you can organize files to SD card or email to your Google account. Transfer files using your computer. It will depend on your access to the phone.
You can use Play Store to get a File Manager (Astro File Manager) is one that comes to mind. Neil.

Go to huawei official site, search for U880 farmware and download it. open the zip file, format your sd card and put the dload folder into your sd card. Press the keys to get to the firmware upgrade menu. After the upgrade is complete, your device will automatically reboot. This is the only cure for your device and even rooted huawei devices as well us bugs with custom roms. Below is a link from huawei official x5 u8800 firmare. I highly recomend you use this firmware as its the original. After opening the zip, OPEN the pdf as it contains the instructions to instaling the firmware. http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=13625 . All the best, Inform me of your progress.
