I installed AdFree Android to my rooted Captivate and realized all it really did was put a huge hosts file in place. The ad placeholders would spin forever and that irritated me so I removed AdFree. Much to my dismay, the modified hosts file was still in /system/etc after removing so I went to Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset in hopes that my Captivate would be restored to its original state. Such was not the case. The modified hosts file was still there.

With this I have a few questions.
    1) Does AdFree back up your current hosts file, and if so.. Where?
    2) What other things does this app install to your device, and how do you revert them since the uninstaller didn't seem to do the trick.
    3) Is there a way to restore /system to a factory state?

    Thanks in advance
    Gary

I was annoyed by the same thing when I installed adfree, and ran into the same problem when uninstalling it. I wound up re-installing it, loading and selecting the 'revert' button. I then rebooted the phone, uninstalled adfree again, and rebooted once more to be safe. Went back to normal afterwards. Hope that helps.
