Walking in Best Buy this afternoon I saw that the Captivate is now $149 on contract, I give it another month before it's at $99 or free.

I just saw that online while looking for accessories. Thanks for posting, so I know that's in store too, I'm going in tomorrow to price match.

they just dropped the price from $229 to $199 at best buy here in my area. I wonder if this is a move on AT&T's part to try and their only "real' andriod unit. We should see the driod x come down to once driod x pro comes out.

I saw the same ads in the newspaper this morning but it now $149 in store. Most ads are done 4-6 weeks in advance so what in store and what's in the ad are sometime different.

Well I bought mine at walmart for $148 on the 31st of July. But still.....i would like to see this phone holds it's value. I think T-Mobile is still selling their Galaxy S (Vibrant) for $199 still.

The only phone that does that is the one that start with the letter "i"

I got my Captivate at RadioShack. I just looked online after seeing this thread, and Radioshack is selling them for $149 on contract now, just like bestbuy.

I am still within my 30 day return period. I am on my second phone but I am still getting crappy battery life. If I return the phone for a new one, will I get it for the $149?

I'm not so sure it's a good thing for a phone to hold its value. That means that it's expensive to buy, which means fewer people will buy it, if the alternative phone has comparable quality but without the artificially inflated cost, errr, "value".

Of course, Apple doesn't care. It has always wanted to be the Rolex of computers, and now of smartphones.

It's like you can get a Dell laptop for 400 bucks or an inferior Mac one for a thousand. You'd be paying 600 dollars for shiny white paint, basically.

Yeah because they never drop the price of the iPhone. Oh wait... that's right... I had AT&T calling my office trying to get me to upgrade our Blackberry lines to iPhone 3GS for $99 months ago.
