Help Galaxy ace text icon goes to internet

Hello there. I am sorry in advance if this is a daft question but today the text icon (the envelope) that I have at the bottom part of the screen of my phone has started going to websites instead of taking me back to my text messages. I can text by going to the phone icon and choosing send message - and then once I have texted, the envelope icon shows me that last text conversation but then the next time I click on it, it goes back to the internet. Have I unintentionally changed a setting for that icon, and if so, how do I change it back please?

Hmm...more details please...did you root your phone and used a custom ROM?
