I've had my note 4 for about 4 months now with no problems. Last night it kept freezing and no buttons were responsive so I took the battery out and rebooted...I did this a few times last night and this morning but it didn't work. I read I should wipe the cache partition which ive also done but the problem hasn't stopped! Does anyone know what I can do? I ideally don't want to reset the phone for obvious reasons.

Depending on the issue, you may need to reset it. But it sounds like malware got into the phone. It could be from something you installed from outside of Play Store.

From what you say, you don't have a choice.

Try to make a backup if you can get access to the phone.
If you can't then as @chanchan05 has said, you will have to force the FDR on the phone and start from scratch.

Sometimes gunk files accumulate over time. Sort of like a PC that needs to be cleaned out. But it really sounds like malware in your case.

If you haven't updated or installed anything in a while, you may want to try SD Maid a go before resetting.
