Galaxy Note or 7" 3/4G tablet?

Now that Notes are going in the low 400's I am considering getting a TMobile Note in a few months, probably after the Note 2 is out to get the original as cheap as possible (probably used). However, I've also considered getting a data-enabled 7" tablet AND I think a Note would be too big as my only device (I'd want a smaller phone for occasional use). Anything I get would be on prepaid.

Options I've considered-
-Keep on with my OV (or TMO Exhibit ii, still trialing that) and my wifi-only SGP 5.0. Pros- I already have both! Cons- SGP is wifi and I don't think either phone can handle anymore than occasional tethering and last a whole day.
-Keep the OV/E2 and get either an older TMO or Verizon 7" tablet (or splurge and get a new TMO 4G tablet). Pros- phone will last the whole day easily with little data usage; don't HAVE to carry both at once (phone still gets the nod since I don't use VOIP); the older tablets can be found for under 200 in good condition. Cons- have to buy something new.
-Keep the E2 as a backup (I work at the beach)/small phone and get a TMO Note. Pros- 1 sim card for both phones; each is still usable without a sim card (gf can play with the Note while I'm actually using the E2); easy to swap between them. Cons- 2 devices to keep charged if I want to swap last minute.
---Other ideas- Go VOIP only with only a 7" tablet (too hard to carry around everywhere), go with only an S2 or the like (practical, but boring!),...

Any thoughts from someone who's faced a similar dilemma?

I've done something like that (OV and SGP), but I really want stand alone devices. I've really been wanting a 7" tablet for a while; not being able to use my phone sim card in one is a real bummer. :D
