    Hello,

I am looking to get into the android arena with a Galaxy Player. I briefly played with a GP 5.0 at Best Buy recently and liked what I saw. However, I see that there is a 4.2 coming out in May.

From what I can tell both are funning Android 2.3. Are there any advantages of getting one over the other at this point, other than screen size?

I am wanting the GP for podcasts (probably using apps like doggcatcher). I currently use my iPod Classic for podcast listening but would like something with a bigger screen for video podcasts. I will also be using it in the car for audio podcasts and music.

I thought about getting something like the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 but I think that the device will be too large for my needs. Besides, I have an iPad and don't really need another tablet.

Thanks for any information you can offer!

Well, I just looked into the 4.2. Looks like it's battery, compared to the 5.0, is smaller...1500 mah for 4.2, and 2500mah for the 5.0. The 4.2's camera is only 2 megapixel, the 5.0's is 3.2 megapixel. They both have the same screen relolution...480x800. Same processor, microsd card slot with 32 Gb max, etc. Most other features are the same.

That's enough to steer me to the 5.0. It is bigger, but I've not had any problems putting it in any of my pockets, and the larger screen is so much easier to use. Typing is so easy.

So, after a cursory comparison, I'd go for the 5.0.

Does the 4.2 have GPS? The 5.0 does!

From what I can see, the only feature on the 4.2 that I like are the speakers were moved to the front of the device.

Yep, it has the same GPS as the 5.0.

Yeh, it works very well. Photos come out quite nice.

I used the Camcorder app a couple days ago, for the first time, and the led light stays on while recording video (rather decent at 30 fps). I was in a park pavillion (somewhat lit, but lots of shadows) and the led worked real well as a fill light. Video came out great, and the sound picked up through that tiny mic was terrific!

And the battery level indicator stayed on full green even after a full hour of filming! That's amazing!!

This SGP5 continues to blow my mind with what it can do well.

I just recently got mine (5.0) and I'm more than satisfied. Having the Samsung Epic 4G Touch made it a little difficult to get this at first. I kept thinking the screen sizes between the 2 devices weren't that much of a difference.....I was wrong.

My main reason for wanting one was so I'd have something to play on thru out the day while ensuring my phone battery would last me thru the day when I'm out and a charging source isn't available.

I also have SGT 10.1 which isn't an option on public transpiration; neither is the iPad.

IMO the camera is ok but I mainly use my phone for pics. I skyped with my cousin a few days ago and for that, this thing was GREAT!!!!

I feel Samsung did this device a marketing injustice. A mini tab in the palm of your hand is how this should have been sold as. I think you should just spring for the 5.0... You won't be disappointed.

I am stuck between the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs the Galaxy Player 5.0. LOL. Good problem to have. I love how Android 4.0 ICS looks! I think the Tab 2 would work for me after some consideration. But I also like the portability of the 5.0. Decisions, decisions.

I needed something that was small enough to carry around throughout the day and would fit in my pocket. The Galaxy Player 5.0 is large enough for easy visibility, but small enough to fit in my pocket. Perfect! And I have a WiFi connection at home, at work, and many of the stores and restaurants that I go to. I wasn't interested in paying a cell phone company a monthly subscription for a data connection. The Galaxy Player 5.0 is a great value when you consider that the only cost is the price of the device and there no monthly cell phone fees.

same here. Phone with big screen is silly money, tablet was too big. I wanted biggest screen for best price. Portability and pocketability was also important, so 5inch was the magic size. Got mine in the UK for
