Hi! I've run a few searches but have been unable to find my question, and no similar questions that my mediocre comprehension level allows me to generalize to my situation... Anyway. I hope this is the right place to be asking.

I have a GT i9000M (Bell, Canada). It's still running 2.1/Eclair. I just managed to root and unlock it (and confirmed by swapping in a friend's SIM card).

I'm travelling in Japan for a month and would like to use a prepaid SIM card for the duration of my travels. Google tells me that as long as I have UMTS 1900/2100 band access I should be fine, but I can't find confirmation that this is true, or that my model has it.

I'll stop before my ignorance further displays itself: In short, can I take my phone to Japan, swap in a microSIM card and expect it to work?
