Hello, is the Samsung Galaxy S getting the Ice Cream Sandwich android update? Kies just says gingerbread is the latest firmware.

    Thanks.

according to the list published by samsung , no
but you can still get it [after the source code is released] on a custom rom [like CyanogenMod]

Shame, I have never used a custom rom before, what would the difference between the two be?

Custom roms usually lets you tweek it even more
for example , you can change the the quick access buttons you get when you view your notifications [wifi , bluetooth.. etc] to whatever you want
but it's based on the android open source so any changed made by samsung won't be there

    here's the list
List of Samsung devices getting upgraded to Android 4.0 hits the Internet

also , ICS source code was just released [an hour ago from writing this] so they should start working on porting it to devices , expect a build in a week [or less :p]

    Not impressed at all.

I'd be happy with a proper, official update of the 2.3 stream from Samsung for the i9000m.

Looks like I'm going to have to go with a custom ROM.

I'm not impressed either! I've had this phone for over a year, upgraded from Eclair to Froyo and then to Gingerbread and STILL no solid/stable firmware. Each update has come with it's own mixture of bugs and flaws.

Screw ICS! I just want a stable WORKING Gingerbread.

...From Samsung? I doubt we will ever see a complety stable fw from them. Best of your bets is to use a custom rom!(Darky)

Yep, one of the custom roms( a plethora to choose from) would satisfy your needs. And in the everchanging smart phone world, SGS is no longer Samsungs flagship!

    Sadly, exactly, this.

The Galaxy S was put into Samsung's [mind] back-storage as soon as the S II [etc.] came out after it.
