Root Galaxy S3 I717 At&t soft brick help

Hi guys and thanks in advance for your help. I was attempting to root and install new Rom on the galaxy s3 At&t. I downloaded odin 3 and ran the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar package. The process failed and now the phone is saying that it needs to connect to Samsung kies. I supplied Odin messages
Any Help would mean a lot. Thanks.

Will the phone boot all the way up or do you only have recovery and download mode that you can access?
Do you remember what version of Android you were on, 4.3,4.4.2?

It had android 4.2 I believe. I can double check in about 10 min. it only boots to the recovery screen and says there was an error during update and hook up to Samsung kies won't go any further. I am able to boot into the volume down home and power option

If you received all the updates that AT&T pushed, you should have been at 4.4.2 NJ2. AT&T doesn't make available all its current firmware so Kies won't help.

You will need to flash a custom Recovery then a stock rooted rom or custom. With Knox you can't downgrade and I think the most current Sammobile has is 4.1.

When you flash TWRP with Odin uncheck auto reboot. When you get pas with Odin, unplug cable and pull battery. Replace battery then boot into recovery. Volume up+ power+home till blue writing in upper left then release power. If you don't the stock recovery will try to over write.

If you are positive that you were on 4.1.2 Kies might work and be quickest way to get back working stock. Let me know if you want to try it.

so last night I flashed the TWRP but didn't know to leave reboot off. the phone is working now as a stock phone. It is android version 4.1.2 I don't have a sd card in this phone but have one I can use. so I guess I'm starting again from scratch on rooting

Glad you got it working. Before you flash a custom rom I would update to the most current version 4.4.2 NJ2 to get the updated baseband, radio and modem software. You don't have to have a SD card, you can copy zips straight to phone. Easy way to root is to copy SuperSu zip to phone, flash TWRP with Odin then SuperSu zip with TWRP.

Never tried with AT&T but it has worked with other carriers brand. Since your stock give it a try. Settings-about phone- Software update.

I tried and it says insert SIM. it's ok I'm going to look for the supersu to install from the New recovery. I'm sure there is a link in the forum.

I was able to get root I believe. There is an installer built in to TWRP I hope that it works ok. Hopefully I will be able to flash a rom to get rid of the bloatware and speed this old thing up

Check in app drawer for SuperSu app. If not there you can download from play store. Open app and you should get prompt to update binary.
Roms that I have tried and like Octos 5.1, Slimlp 5.1, and currently using CM 12

your awesome thank you. I found an app for TWRP and it looks like I can flash roms from there. do you just get your zip files from those apps or do you search them online?
