NEW root method for Galaxy S3 (SCH-S968C) Straight talk after august 2014 Kernel update!
Root for galaxy s3 on straight talk. This method works for s3's purchased after august 2014.
Try normal rooting first using cydia impactor or srs root to make sure this method is necessary.
*********Important notes before starting this Root/Flash!****************
Make sure the usb cable is not loose and the computer and phone is placed in a safe area where it cant disconnect at any time during flash. if the cable is loose or the connection drops by wiggling the cord, try a different cord or bend the metal ends closed more on a hard table edge or something. It is important that the connection is not interrupted during flash, the battery is at-least 50 percent charged and the pc your using is stable and plugged in. any interruptions could brick the phone and cause it unusable.
Also, make sure your phones google account, pictures, contacts, ect are all backed up to the ext. sd card or you will loose all your data when the flash is complete. Check memos, music, videos, bookmarks, contacts, and everything to make sure its all backed up. once everything is backed up, please remove the sd card untill the flash is complete. This flash will restore the phone, loosing all date stored on it. Another important thing, in your contacts, make sure there is a google symbol next to all the contacts on that list, or google will not back up those contacts.

1. - download heimdall-suite-1.4.0 and unzip files
2. - Download COMBINATION_S968CUDUAMH1_S968CTFNAMH1_1304014_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.rar file. search google for this file. I would post a link to it but they usually get taken down after a couple of days.
3. - unzip if needed, and delete ext. .rar leaving .tar in the filename if necessary. extract the file into a folder with the same name.
4. - Make sure usb debugging is enabled under developer options in the phones settings. Turn phone off, and put into download mode by pressing and holding volume down+home+power button.
5. - Connect the phone to the computer by usb.
6. - open Heimdal folder, then drivers folder. run zadig. Choose options, list all devices. click drop box and choose samsung composite device, or the driver currently listed for the phone. Driver may show something different like numbers since the phone is in download mode. under Driver, choose WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385) then click install or replace driver.
7. - Open Heimdall-frontend
8. Disconnect, then Connect your phone to your computer with it's provided USB Cable, leave the phone in download mode.
9. 10. Go to "Utilities" tab in heimdall.
11. Click "Detect Device". If you see "ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device." You have done something wrong, DO NOT continue any further, until you have resolved this. (You didn't follow the directions and make sure proper drivers were installed.)
12. If your device was successfully found Download your PIT file. (Give it a name you will remember, you need to find it in the following steps.)
13. Click the "Flash" tab.
14. Under Options PIT browse to the location of the PIT file you just saved.
15. Under "Partitions (Files)" click the "Add" button.
16. Under the file browser, choose from each of the files in the folder you extracted in step 3. folder should be COMBINATION_S968CUDUAMH1_S968CTFNAMH1_1304014_REV09_user_low_ship. Make sure to click add each time you add a file.
Using the following chart.. line up each image part with it's proper slot.

WARNING - DOING anything below this step may brick your device, and make it not usable, only experienced people should follow these steps.
17. If you are sure you have done everything correctly up to this point. Double check Everything! Press "Start", and wait while your images are copied to your phone. This step may take a while. Just relax and take a deep breath. DO NOT EVER UNPLUG YOUR PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS!!
18. Before clicking start, disconnect, then reconnect the phone. Wait 30 seconds.

21. Restart phone by taking out the battery. This worked for me... and then continue to root the normal way and install SuperSU:
22. Use cydia impactor to root device. (Impactor_0.9.14) is the version i used. Open cydia, plug phone in, and click start! Done in seconds. If that fails, try using srs one click root.
GOOD LUCK. I have not tested this method on any other phones than the SCH-S968C so I don't recommend trying it on other phones unless your certain it will work. I have done this twice on these phones so far, and have not had any problems besides a libusb error - 12 in heimdall. Fixed that issue by restarting the computer, using a different usb port, and correctly following steps 3-6.

After root, download (wifi tether router) from the play store. (requires root access)
open the app, click configure wifi router, and change the following settings. Do not change anything else!
Network name ssid: (yourname)
Wifi password: (yourpassword)
Interface: wlan0
Method: 3 - HostApd
Wifi Channel: 1
Encryption : WPA2-psk
Drivers: nl80211
HostApd Patch: UNCHECKED
Enable Wifi FIRST before enabling the wireless tether! This ensures the SSID is broadcast.
each time you enable wifi tether router, it can take up to 45 seconds for it to activate, so please be patient with it. You can hit the home button to continue with what you need to do while it activates and runs in the background.
So far this is the only working method for wifi tethering on straight talks galaxy s3's. Have not tested it on other devices, but it doesn't hurt to try.
