Hi, last week i picked up a galaxy s7 and it has been great so far. However, when i was going through the camera settings, i saw that there is a 10 min limit when recording at 1080p 60fps and 4k. can anyone explain why there is a limit for these resolutions?

Most likely heat. Recording at high res and framerate puts a lot of load on the processor and may result in it exceeding its thermal limits, throttling performance as a safety precaution, and hence possibly dropping frames as a result.

    That's terrible!

I wonder if 3rd party camera apps have the same limit.

Thanks for your reply. It really is a shame. i thought samsung solved the heat issues with the heat pipe they have embedded over the cpu.

It's not really terrible, it's preferrable to damaging your SoC/Phone because it's too hot.

Given it's size and everything that's packed in there, there's very little room for heat dissipation in a mobile device.

Could also be a size limit, 10 Mins of 4k video at 60fps is going to take up at least a couple of GB's.

I'm more concerned about 1080p at 60fps having the limit. I now understand that 4k video can get the phone hot, but 1080p 60fps should not be limited in my opinion

Exactly. The S6 can record at 1080P 60FPS apparently indefinitely - I have done it many times. That's using the stock camera app.

4k I am not bothered about.

Maybe there is a work-around which is to pause the video and restart it a few seconds later?
