I recently got a Galaxy tab 10.1 and I love it but my chief disappointment is its frustrating performance in finding my Motorola DroidX phone's 3G WLAN hotspot and connecting. The Galaxy tab does successfully connect to my regular home wlan and to other wlans, both secure and open. For some reason, it recognizes the DroidX about 50% of the time. Other times, it simply fails to sense that the hot spot is within range, even if it is two feet away.

I often run as the phone as a 3G WLAN Hotspot to provide an internet connection to my laptop. I have never had any problem with the laptop quickly finding the phone hotspot and connecting, so the problem is in the pairing of the two devices rather than the phone's hot spot.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to improve this performance?

I connect my galaxy tab to my Droid x as well. However, I connect through Bluetooth not wifi. Try that and see if that works better for you.

There is a discussion posted elsewhere in this forum that gives step by step instructions. I used it myself when first posted and found it to be excellent. I'm sorry but I don't know how to give a link to it. If you search the forum for Bluetooth tethering you will find it.

Connecting via bluetooth also works perfectly for me.

Both the hotspot and bluetooth work well for me. I am rooted on my Droid X.

If you can tether via normal hotspot is there any advantage to doing it via bluetooth?
