I assume you are talking about the 1/8 inch bar at the top. It is difficult to read. I don't see anyway to change its size. It gets larger if you touch it and will display the time, date and Wi-Fi connection. It goes to 3/4 screen size if you pull it down but the battery charge level is not displayed. They are many apps which do that with a tap. It was larger in the 4.0 as I remember.
