For some of you this might be a pretty dumb question but for me I can't figure this out. Today I had my note 20 ultra malfunction and I needed to get a new phone. So I got the S22 ultra. But since there's no memory card anymore I've had to back up and pay for Google photos and put all my photos on there.

My question is.... when I open my gallery there's nothing in it unless I take a new picture, then if I go to Google photos all the pictures that I've uploaded from my old phone are in "photos" app. is there any way I can see all of my pictures in my gallery like when I had a memory card... or do I have to go to Google photos from now on?

I really appreciate any insight I can get this is driving me nuts.

you would have to download all of the pictures to your phone. the photos you see in Photos are not on your phone, but on Goggle's server. i only use Photos. i rarely use gallery.

Thank you... So pretty much now, the gallery app is useless using the cloud?

i would use gallery for the future photos and have Google Photo's for your older photos and as a backup. i never have to worry about losing my photos. i can take a picture, sync my google account and then hop on my pc and view the photo i just took without having to connect the phone via cables.

for me though gallery is pretty useless.....but that is what i'm used from the days of the note 7 where samsung first got rid of the sd card.

You could of course re-download your photos to the device, at which point your gallery app is useful again. ;)

I would never rely solely on someone else's server (which is what "the cloud" is), especially when their terms & conditions give you no comeback whatsoever if they screw up and delete your data. If it's of any importance I'll always have a working copy and a backup of my own, either instead of or as well as any cloud backup.

Just download them from your google drive to your PC or Mac. And then plug your phone in and transfer them back over. And like others have said I'd keep copies local and back them up separately as well as on Google drive. Depending on how much you value these photos. It'd be worth the effort to make sure they're safe in few places. Cloud, Local, and on device.
