In my SD card I have a folder that contains all my custom icons. I did not want them showing up in the gallery so I used the '.nomedia' blank file method to hide them. I have used this method before so I know it works fine.

But this time it has only partially hidden them. The gallery still has an album but it contains unknown files. I tried clearing the gallery cache but that did not help.

Would clearing the gallery data help? Would that make it find all the media files again?

When changing media files the media player index should freshed up.
Running SDrescan (free in market) does this.

Thank you for the help but not quite what I meant. By bad for not explaining it.

I want to get rid of the unknown files from my gallery.

With clearing gallery data you will lose your entiere gallery!

Better use a file manager (e.g. Estrongs File Exorer, free in market) to delete this files you don't will see.
And after deleting you should use SDrescan before you start the gallery.
