    The Game Of Life

    DESCRIPTION
The game of life is actually a cellular automaton devised by the mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970.
It's sort of a virtual world where many cells are living.
They reproduce and die under certain conditions.
This game does not need the player itself (kind of zero-player game), but we can make it more interactive by adding special patterns that will evolve in specific ways, or by changing the rules of the world, for instance.

The main features of my implementation are:

I recently fixed some little "bugs".

If you like my app', please rate it on the market, it is always pleasant for beginners in development ;)

I would suggest changing the name to just "LIFE". EA Mobile already has an app titled "The Game of Life" based on Hasbro's board game.

But what is the problem ?
Cause in french (my mother language) it's called "Le jeu de la vie" and nothing is already called like that.

The problem is copy right issues. I wouldn't be surprised if Google takes it off because of the name or you get a nice little letter from EA telling you to change it.

Yes but the "Board game" is also known as LIFE ... The Game of Life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So I can't spell my game as i want ? Am I not free to choose ? I really think I can. Morevover, I don't think that John Conway had troubles with the creator, so why me ? And I regret, but I'm not as famous as him ...

There were already a a few dozen game of life apps on the market before EA even started developing android apps.

Just in case that you don't know, game of life is a very popular programming exercise for computing students. If EA attempts to claim the copy right of the title game of life, they are in for one hell of a ride. They will have to sue every single university in the world.

Technically it is Hasbro (who bought out Milton Bradley, I believe) that has the copy right to the title The Game of Life, with persmission given to EA for the digital recreation of the game. Though the name has changed, I'm sure both of the "official" releases of the game (the 1860 original & the 1960 modern) date back before Conway (1970). All they would really have to do is file some sort of class action lawsuit anyway for copy right infringement.

If people get butt hurt about "their" ideas they tend to do whatever it takes to make sure there is no competition or copying of ideas. I heard an excellent example of this the other day on the radio. Some 60 year old lady started a cookie shop (due to popular demand) downtown here in Salt Lake, and called it "The Dough Girl" or something like that and was going to be sued by General Mills unless she changed her name. Pretty low and pathetic if you ask me, but when a large coperation has money they have power.

If you want to get even more technical, Conway's game is called Game of Life, not The Game of Life. Both even have short versions, Life (Conway) and LIFE (MB/EA).

    DESCRIPTION
Langton's Ant is actually a two-dimensional cell automaton that evolves by following very simple rules.
It was invented by scientist Christopher Langton in 1986 and helped to highlight an example of emergent behavior.

    DESCRIPTION

Generations is a cellular automaton close to The Game of Life.
It's sort of a virtual world where many cells are living.
They reproduce and die under certain conditions.
The difference with The Game Of Life is that cells can grow old.

The three basic rules are :
    - 1 cell comes to life if it has 2 neighboring active cells
    - 1 active cell grow old and becomes inactive
    - 1 old cell dies

This game does not need the player itself (kind of zero-player game), but we can make it more interactive by modifing the birth and survival rules and it's lifetime.

The main features of my implementation are:
