I have really bricked up my Droid X. I was running rooted GB 596, tried a couple different approaches to getting Google Talk with AV working last night. When I finally was successful, I noticed my Gmail app wouldn't open and I would just get Forced Close notices. So I decided to Restore a backup I made right after I installed GB 596 a few days ago. After that I get stuck in the Boot at the red Droid Eye.

Since that I have tried, wipe, factory reset, plus when I try to run RDS Lite to SBF back to Froyo, RDS doesn't show my device and gives me a "Chipset type 43 is not supported" message as soon as I select the SBF file. The only hope I have left is that my office PC is secured so much that it is limiting my ability to run RDS propertly, so I can keep my fingers crossed that my home PC can bail me out.

Edit: I also tried booting it holding down the Home key, when the Yello ! w/ Droid comes up the search key doesn't do anything and my phone is froze.

Other than that, I really need HELP!

Do you have another computer than you can try to do RSDLite from. Preferably like a windows xp 32bit machine?

    SBF to 2.340
    Let it boot.
    z4root
    droid 2 bootstrap
Install the two part .596 files.
    Let it boot.
    Boot recovery
    Factory reset.

Should be good from there. My guess is your work computer is screwing with the RSD program. Or your drivers aren't working correctly.

What do you think the "Chipset type 43 is not supported" error in RDS is?

Probably driver not working correctly so your phone isn't actually reporting to the software as a supported device. So it won't continue.

That's about it. The problem with RSDlite is in the drivers themselves. When you're running windows 7 64 bit, which I'm assuming you are because of the error, this is a very common problem.

It's also a big PITA! This is why we are very grateful to 1KDS for creating the Linux method and Aggie12 for bringing it over here and letting us know it existed. Here's the link for it,

    http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/346016-creating-bootable-linux-cd-soley-sbf-headache-free.html

This method of SBF'ing is so easy a monkey could do it. I know I can.....lol.

How come my restore of GB didn't work? Are GB nandroid backups OK, or is that something that is no longer but we think they are because they worked in Froyo?

Gb backups work the same way froyo backups do. If you wanna really be mad your whole problem prolly could have been fixed with just flashing Bouchigo's deodexer file. Now hows that burn your butt?......lol.....but we live and learn.

First of all thanks for all the help yesterday.

Once I got home to my regular PC I was able to SBF back to Froyo and do the GB install without problems. I guess that does confirm that my office PC was preventing RDS or the drivers work properly.

After I followed all of your instruction I got a clean GB install. In fact I noticed something completely different than previous restores or SBF's. In the past I have never wiped or did the factory reset and I have always used Titanium backup to restore all system apps and data. This time I did the wipe and factory reset without a Titanium restore and notice some REAL differences. It was much cleaner and I think it performs better. I guess my Titanium restores puts allot of garbage out there. I always wanted to restore my TXT messages so I did the complete Titanium restore but I am glad I didn't this time.

I also was able to install Google Talk with AV through Root Explorer and get it running the first time.

    Thanks again.

I'm not sure you realized it, but it's been almost two months since this thread had any activity.
