I've only had my Droid (and also gchat/gtalk) for about 5 days and I'm still learning but I'm having some issues with gchat/gtalk...

    - I sent an invite to a friend and she accepted but she's not showing up on my friends list even though I'm showing up on hers. (I changed the gtalk setting on my phone that shows me as offline when my screen is off by default. Also, should it matter if she's using a computer or a blackberry or another device?) Ideas?

    - When she IM's me on gchat, I can only get to the IM through the notification bar. if I try to open the "talk" app, there's nothing there - No friends list, no chats anywhere, nothing.

    - At the bottom of our IM, it also says that she's offline but she's not (she's using a blackberry), so Im wondering if my friends list will only show friends who are online?

A lot of people use gchat on their phones and computers all day, so I'd like to get this working (if possible) before I just give up and try meebo and make all my friends download it.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Odd. Have her request you too and see if that solves anything.

Gtalk doesn't update (on the phone) often, I sign out and back in every now and again to get and updated view of who is really on.
Last night my sister sent me a message and I replied, she was showing 'offline' on my Droid and did not get the message I sent...even though she was clearly on!! I signed off and back on and chatted away.

Quite a few Google related apps are like that. They are getting better, but Google Finance and Google Sports are also very very finicky about updating automatically.

Just give it some time. Adding friends through Google Chat and Latitude can be a real pain in the butt. I've found its best not to wait until you actually need to talk to the person or locate them before trying to get the invite process out of the way first. I think if you sign into your gmail account and go to chat on the side after she sends you an invite you should be able to approve it from there and have everything be ok.

Yep, this makes perfect sense. Thanks! So, now, um, a stupid question. I don't have a problem signing out and back in every once in a while, but how do I do that? Haha. I mean, I can see that if I hit the menu button, and then tap "more" I can sign out, but after that it doesn't give me the option to sign back in, even when I uncheck "automatically sign in". It takes me to my home screen and when I reopen the app, it just takes me right to my friends list. Weird.

    You just signed in :)

Signing out closes the app, as there is nothing left. When you run the gtalk application, it will sign back in. There is no, login screen.

There is a signing in screen, but you generally won't see that unless it's having trouble during the sign in process. It signs in quickly enough that your buddy list is displayed and you don't see the signing in dialog.
