I'm new at this and, at first, my Galaxy S7 worked plug and play as advertised. Then, I started exploring Cardboard Enabler and apps from the Play store. I couldn't get any of them to work since the home button would depress when the phone was snapped into place most of the time and there was a double image the rest of the time. So, I uninstalled the new apps.....now, Gear VR won't start when I insert my phone. I'm just looking at my phones home screen through the lenses. Could someone please give advice here?

What did you uninstall? Many Android apps -- especially system apps -- share services so if you uninstall something VR needed it won't be able to run properly.

Just the cardboard apps and related content. I panicked posted this question too soon. I forgot to uncheck Gear VR in Package Disabler. Now, however, the phone is red hot and Gear is telling me to let it cool down.

Sounds like something is stuck on. Try rebooting the phone. If that doesn't work you can try clearing the system cache from the recovery menu.
