Root General questions: Rooting HTC magic and upgrading android

Hi Guys
First of all it would be nice to see FAQ for this section of forum. I saw few questions that people are asking and there is a answer if they search.

But there are few question that i still don't have answer.
Ex.
All versions of HTC magic!
I saw in forums that there is:

• HTC Magic from Rogers
• HTC magic from Vodafone
• etc...

I have ordered HTC magic unlocked and i don't depend on any of those providers.

1. Does my phone have any difference then those up there in hardware?
2. If i root my device, can i use same img as from rogers ? (link)
3. Can i use formal android img and not 3th party img from xda forums?
4. There is a rumor that when i root i can't download apps from google market! is that true...

my version is:
1.) Model Number = HTC Magic
2.) Firmware Version 1.5
3.) Baseband Version 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
4.) Kernel Version ? 2.6.27-957975db/ herbert@and18-2 #1069
5.) Build Number ? 2.16.707.3 146733 CL#32934 release-keys

Ohh, if somebody ask why i need it rooted... cause i need to install heb fonts and i'm ubuntu freek

yes you could use the stuff from XDA or you could do this Magic Rooting - Android Wiki either way and i still have full access to all my google stuff and im rooted.... depends on what build you choose to run......

Any person that really wants to submit FAQ articles/post ... we welcome them and will post them to a *** thread ...

In the mean time be aware that search still works and also tag searchs ...

I look forward to being able to add some nice FAQ Thread to the Magic forums ..
