with some of my apps, the icons seem to unpredictably change to the generic icons (blue boxes with gears). I've had this happen with fruit ninja and angry birds. Is there something I can be doing differently to avoid this?

Are those apps stored on your SD card? Happens after a reboot?

Or does it happen after an update?

Hmm, all the apps this happens with are on the sd card. And this happens after I power the phone totally off then back on. Known problem?

That's normal. Its not actually a problem. Its just that when the phone has booted back on, it takes time for it to completely scan the card for data. Just wait for a few min and the icons will be back to normal.

For some reason, the icons remain generic even many hours after the phone booted, and they aren't returning to normal...I've got three apps on my home screens that are on the SD card, and this is happening to all three...suggestions?

Are that icons proper linked to their apps?
Sometimes I have such icons (but green with the android pic) which won't start their apps.
I blame the devs of that apps for that bug :D

If your desktop restarts, the icons update, if it doesn't, they don't. Not sure how to force that.

Your easier solution is to move those off the SD card - menu settings, Applications, manage.

I found something that consistently fixes the problem, but it's not a really viable solution. If I go to all my Apps, and uninstall one, then exit, then all the generic icons of SD card applications will reset to normal. at least I found something that works consistently heh.
