Ok so in another post I see people complaining about the Genius Button being to slow for them..

I don't seam to have a problem with mine .. just wanted to know how yours is working if you do use it..

I find this to be one of the best things about the phone.. I can find anything I need by just saying it.. And it always finds exactly what I am looking for...

I can't make the thing work - I press "search the web", and always get a business search, or a "send text".

Can't seem to hit the Internet search - which is really what I would like (though looking at this, I love the Google Maps search (business).

Maybe I don't get it - but Internet search, should be a proper Google search (voice activated), and I can't seem to get that......................

@rrolff There is no pressing required. Say you want to search the web for mytouch slide. Simply press the Genius button, wait until it say Listening at the bottom, and clearly say "search mytouch slide". It will bring up a Google search for my touch slide, doesn't understand it as one word.

The Genius button works great for me. It does take some time to load up, but once it does, it works great. Only thing I've really had problems with is it could not understand FIFA...thought I was saying pizza.

Lol being how T-Mobile is a German company and Google and HTC are international companies, you would think they would understand FIFA. I mean soccer is arguably the worlds biggest sport.

Yea it is the worlds biggest sport.. but then again if the software was written by North Americans they might over looked it..

True true. Didn't think of that. But FIFA is the only problem I've had with the Genius button.

My only problem is that sometimes it takes quite a few seconds before it starts listening to what I am saying. (Close to 10 seconds) And every time it takes so long it says its preparing my contacts list or something like that.

It could be something with how my contacts are synced or something. Because I just tried this again and I had to wait the first time, but the second time I didn't have to wait...

Mine does this only the first time after I turn my phone on. After that it goes no problem. Is yours the same?

My Genius button works great; no delay or lag or anything.

My g button works painfully slow. In fact, it is faster for me to open up the browser to google, change input to dragon diction and say what i want than to use the g button.

I've noticed that the Genius button doesn't respond to a quick press like the other ones do, it requires a slightly longer press to start. It doesn't bother me at all now that I know that, but it annoyed me at first because it seemed like it just wasn't working...

I used the Genius button and while I think it may be useful for when you are in a place you are unfamiliar with, it did not help me. I was helped better by just logging on the internet to look for the phone number of a local business close to my home.

The Genius button only gave me the address.

I did notice though that it looked like it will be helpful and accurate if you use it to call your contacts by voice recognition.

I have a similar issue sometimes - you get a Genius screen - you can choose a few options (contacts etc) - but never understood you can just say "search internet xxx" - but on many searches I get the actual 'business' which really is a google.maps.com search. I really *only* want a proper Google search for the terms - and am getting a mixed bag at best....

Maybe I have no clue on what to 'say' - but 'search Internet" seems to yield Google.Maps data often...... Which likely yields Google $$$ but (they got sued for a similar issue on the past) is useless for what I'm looking for...

I totally agree! Don't get me wrong, I love Google as far as looking for businesses that located close to me, but the Genius button does not give enough info. Obtaining an address is easy but most of the time I need the business phone number also.
A simple google search yeilds the address and phone number and a link to press if you want directions, which then pops you over to Google Maps (another excellent app).

The commercial seems to explain why we would need a Genius button but like I said, It seems it would be helpful if your on a road trip or something.

When I was searching for a business I spoke to soon and it searched my contacts. Since it wasn't clear as to what I said a list of the 5 closest contacts popped up. I liked that!
The phone I had before the G1 would just keep asking me "Did you say xxx?" with the pop up list I can just choose who I said.

I fine the slower and clear you speak the better the GB is... I tried to look up an app on the market and I spoke to fast. Did it again slowed down and the key ring app just popped up ..

Speaking clearly is definitely key. My first clue that I need to be more clear was the search result for "T-Mobile device tuna" I got yesterday. :p

    Some good tips here:

Hold the GB for a bit (it vibrates) to start it.
It takes a while to start it up after each reboot.

Just thought I would add this for future reference. Tells all the different commands for the Genius Button and Dragon Dictation. I didn't know about the driving mode before this.

I think it's all in your wording. If you say "find", you tend to get a Google map. If you say search, you typically get an internet search. Bottom line is you need to use the examples that come up when you hit the Genius button. One note: At first, when I hit my Genius button, it was taking a while for the voice command to come on. I had to do a factory reset for an unrelated thing and now it comes up right away. Not sure what had caused the delay before but I'm glad I inadvertantly fixed it. Genius button is pretty nice, especially for doing voice-to-text.

I only found out about the Driving Mode by reading through the "100% You" magazine. It's not even in the manual for pete's sake but then there are a number of similar omissions. What's up with that T-Mo?

Just a tip but if you unsync Google from your phonebook your lag will be cut down dramatically.

I just unsynced Google contacts (still syncing Calendar and Gmail) and it made a massive performance improvement! First use of g dropped from about 25 seconds between button press and "listening" to about 10 seconds, and each successive press dropped from 10+ seconds to about 3.

    Thanks for the tip! :)

Well for what it's worth, I get those same results and I didn't have to unsync Google contacts. Just sayin....
