Root Getting a communication error and wondering how to proceed on boot screen

Hi all,

I'm new to this and have been following the "ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition" sticky. I just got the following error while running the revolutionary exe (copied the files in the zip to their own directory on my computer and then ran as admin in Windows 7):

Code:
Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again.
My phone now shows boot text with S-ON indicated and a few options. But my volume keys and power button aren't responding. Is it safe to pull the battery at this point? Or should I just leave the boot screen as is and retry the revolutionary exe?

EDIT: I'm on step 6 of "On to Rooting your EVO!!!!!".

Thanks.

Hmm.. I'd say you are safe to pull the battery. I'd try running the revolutionary tool again. Seems like a lot of people (I know with Unrevoked, I'm pretty sure with revolutionary) need to run the root tools several times.

I'm sure ocnbreeze will have an answer for you, or better yet, a solution.

Okay, re-read your post, I'd try revolutionary again plugged in, then if nothing happens, try battery pull.

it should be safe to pull the battery out at this point and reboot up. try running revolutionary again. make sure that antivirus is turned off and that you have a good connection with your phone. also make sure that htc sync is not install as well.

Thanks guys. Worked like a charm! I tried the revolutionary exe, but it must have not been able to detect my phone due to the connection issue, so I just pulled the battery instead. Then double checked each prior step again and proceeded without issue. Now I'll just need to figure out how to get the Sprint bloatware off. Is that what ROMs are for? I'm a newbie at this.

;)

You could also try titaniumbackup and "Freeze" the apps you don't want. But flashing new roms is much more exciting and really leaves you refreshed... kinda.

Cool. I'm excited. I did download Titanium Backup and will continue w/ that first tomorrow. Thanks all!

Before you do anything NANDROID w/wimax keys option checked, then copy said nandroid folder to a safe place on your computer, then NANDROID AGAIN, then copy second nandroid to a completely different computer if possible. Then love your new phone.

Thanks. I have a bit more time this weekend and would like to go further. I've run what I assume to be a Nandroid backup via Recovery, but it looks fairly basic and text-like. There isn't an option for wimax keys. Do I need to run something else to get that option?

Am I correct to assume you are on Clockwork? If so, I would personally go to amon ra. Much more awesome ;)
