I'm ready and starting to get a bit annoyed to be honest. I know it's not yet april but there's no reason we should still be waiting. I mean seriously you can go to the store right now and get a cheap arse coby tablet with ICS already installed for $100 yet here we are still waiting. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade my A500 for a kyros but one would think acer would be able to get their act together by now.

Hopefully Google will very quickly launch a co branded tablet. If they do that it could help to change Android to a stand alone OS with the bloutware as a seperate system running with the Android OS. This would let Google proceed with updates to the OS by itself, and we would not have to wait for Acer,Asus or Samsung to rewrite it. This would also carry over to the phone market,no waiting for the phone maker or carrierto rewrite the OS.

    Anyone have thoughs on this?

yeah but wouldn't it impede the amount of devices released with said type? im all for bloatware free but i think even with that type you would still have third party

My understanding was that Acer is the vendor of Google's upcoming tablet. Hopefully that might shorten the wait for us. Or, I suppose, make it longer if they're too busy playing with Google.

What I was trying to say was Google needs to make Android more like a PC OS ,in that it operates seperately from the bloatware that Acer,Asus and Samsung add. This would not help us with our current tablets, but would help all future tablets and phones. There would not be any fragmentation in Android and when Google has an update or new version we can use it immediately without waiting for the tablet manufacturers having to overwrite it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Would you rather wait a few more weeks and have a stable OS with everything working or would you like it now and have constant force-closing and mysterious reboots? I'll wait a little longer, thank you very much.

If you pay attention to Windows releases, they go through a process of developer testing, alpha testing, beta testing THEN release (RTM). Right now, I imagine Acer is in the Beta phase and very close to the RTM stage, only with these releases (unlike Windows where the consumer preview is open to anyone with a MS Live account) the beta testing is restricted to a select group of people.

While I agree with what you're saying that, once Acer release their official version, everything will be working as it should...

I have only had my A500 since the beginning of March and rooted pretty much straight away. Although I admit I have had one issue with it, that has been it in a little over a month... there haven't been constant force closes and mysterious reboots :D

I realise that, once Acer have released their official version, the devs will be able to do their magic and the custom ROM's will not be lacking in anything but, in the mean time, I'm not really missing the features that aren't available, as they aren't available! ;):)

My point is that people are complaining and whining that the update isn't out yet. I realize that once Acer drops the release it will be fully working. Previous experience (other devices) has been that people whined so much that it seemed like the update was rushed and ended up with issues that could have been avoided or found with more testing, the GB update for the TB was released and almost immediately pulled due to bugs that could have been found with more testing.

In the end, be patient, the patience will pay off in the long run when they don't have to update the update because the first one was buggy...

Oh yeah... I completely understand. I actually prefer to root and run custom ROM's, as I like to change them every now and then.

I know what you're talking about though... it is coming and I'm sure it won't be long! :D

I'm excited, I just got an a500 last night, saw the firmware, and was cool, then saw that I'd be updating to 4.0 this month!

What's the difference in the hardware with the tablets? Isn't the 200 the newest version?

I'd rather have a "good" version. Less chance of a glitch. I do agree about the dates - even if they stated July, I can wait. Just knowing it will be available then would be fine.

If these are all wifi only tablets at least you aren't dealing with a carrier who could add more delay time by insisting on carrier bloatware.

Yes the A200 is newer, only released end of 2011 (early 2012 in US). Afaik the only difference in hardware is the A200 doesn't have the rear facing camera or HDMI out.
I have been on ICS for a while now on my A200 and just got another Acer OTA update to 4.0.3.
The positives are awesome battery life, the ability to disable apps and improved browsing, no keyboard lag.
I had a couple of games that stopped working with ICS.

Apart from the "that's cool" factor, I don't see the point of face unlock, given the problems with unreliability and lack of security.

If you want security you'd use a pattern PIN or password.
If you want speed of access just turn off the lock screen. Since the touch screen is capacitive it isn't going to be activating icons in your case if the power button accidentally gets pressed.

The unlock to app feature, where you swipe to one of four configurable icons on the lock screen, is far more useful.

The face unlock gets annoying after a while, unless you just so happen to be a person who holds your device in such a way that when you hit the power button the camera is already perfectly framing your face.
