As a sports collector myself I'm intersted in the outcome of this Manning case, but also in the case of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_3BtIUSmbk You have 2 very credible sports authenticators reputations on the line. Steiner in the Manning case & PSA in the Honus Wagner case.

As far as we know.. it may be a wide spread practice and we all have bogus goods hanging in our man cave. Would not surprise me.

Yeah, I saw an article the other day that Ken Griffey Jr's Upper Deck Rookie baseball card was photoshopped. I'll see if I can find a link later on.

I'm not into spending the big bucks for sports memorabilia but my son and one son-in-law have dropped some serious money into collecting. Pretty scary. I know there will always be knockoffs but when you get something from a reputable vendor with documentation.. you trust it is genuine. How many collections out there are tainted with fakes? And better yet, how might this breaking news effect future investments?

A company like Steiner that authenticates these things is only as good as their reputation. The could fold overnight like Arthur Anderson if they get too tainted by this.

Oh, and the Griffey link I promised.:)

Not a collector either, however,it amazes me how those who have already "made it",risk so much (reputation/future earnings/etc) over something that amounts to little more than a blip on the radar screen.
