I downloaded the new update for Gingerbread 2.3.4 with my T-mobile G2.I was so happy to finally be getting the gingerbread update up until I had to get into my car and use the GPS to drive to my new office. The problem is that when I plugged in the auxilury jack from my car speakers I could hear my phone's music,I can hear all other apps through the car speakers except the turn by turn directions won't sound off.It actually interrupts the audio from other apps and you can hear the muted sound level from the gps trying to say something but you can't hear it.I raised the navigation volume but still it won't pipe through the 3.5 mm jack.If I unplug it i can hear it from the phone's speakers but I want it to be back through the car speakers like Froyo.I searched other forums for any fixes but I found nothing.I think people are also having the same problem use the gps through a cars bluetooth system with speakers.Any help would be very appreciated.

I'm having the same exact problem with my newly-updated G2. Playing music through Amazon's mp3 player and running Navigation simultaneously worked flawlessly in Froyo, and is not working AT ALL in Gingerbread. It's pretty baffling, and the added treat of the music player shutting down, and sometimes--unpredictably--the whole phone shutting down is making long drives pretty miserable. Navigation will also once in a while still work--like, it will give the first direction audibly, then nothing after that.

And yes, volume maxed on in Navigation, Navigation is otherwise working (though GPS lock-on seems way slower after the update, too), and I checked the TTS engine was set correctly (this was suggested in another post for a related problem). No bluetooth.

Oh, and also: this is a KNOWN ISSUE on the official Android forums--I'm a new member so can't post links, but it's code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15690

PLEASE VOTE FOR IT SO GOOGLE TAKES NOTE AND FIXES IT!!! Thanks :)

I was able to come up with a solution.Allbeit not a great one but its a temporary band aid.I maxed out volume on the cars aux channel and turned down my radio programs app iheart radiov to medium volume.it plays at a normal level in the car and volume on the gps is audible enough to hear it when you set it to max.I thought of this system when I first noticed that the gps speaks very low but its still coming through the car speakers and the instructions for help in the gps said the sound coming from gps is independent of the sound coming from the phone programs.just make sure to turn the volume in the car. Back down before switching to radio or taking a call.

I had this issue also recently and saw some posts on the Google support site and learned it was actually an update from Google Maps. I found this thread and if you go down to a post by "hairyfingers" on 10/5 they talk about uninstalling updates to Maps and then installing the APK for version 5.8. Here's the link to that thread and there's a link there to the APK for 5.8: Why is the Google Navigator Volume No Longer Separate - But Now Linked with Media Volume? - Google Mobile Help

I did the instructions and it worked.

    Good luck!
