I simple test. Add a contact with only TWO numbers. e.g.
    Office 1: (555) 555 1234,,,1234
    Office 2: (555) 555 1234,,,3344

Android 2.3 MERGES these two numbers into one!! I couldn't believe my eyes . You can only call one number (I guess the first one) and android will IGNORE the other number. 2.2 used to handle this situation correctly. This is an ugly new "feature". And it doesn't matter if I put 1 or 3 commas.

Another test (This is how I call overseas via my calling card):
    Home: (555) 555 1234,,,011 7 555 765 4321
    Mobile: (555) 555 1234,,,011 7 555 123 4567

Android 2.3 can't recognize these 2 numbers as different numbers. What a shame. As far as I know comma is a valid character representing a pause. It should be treated as a part of phone number.

You have a few options (from my personal experience):
    1) Use allowed but non-functional characters in your numbers e.g.
    Home: (555)+555 1234,,,011 7 555 765 4321
    Mobile: (555) 555+1234,,,011 7 555 123 4567
    Uuuugly!
    2) Use Go Contacts app from Go Dev Team. Beware! Their dialer doesn't handle commas! (What's wrong with all the contact list developers?!) Use Go Contacts + system dialer.
Less ugly. I have Go Contacts, it is sexy but it feels a bit heavy.
    3) If you call with calling cards use Prefixer app.

I use both 2 & 3. Highly recommend prefixer. It can manage multiple calling cards & calling via google voice number.

    Hoping this helps.

P.S. Ideally it would be nice if google addressed the issue and released a fix.
