Forget Gingerbread and 2.3.. It takes forever for sprint to release it. They should just skip ahead to 3.0 Honeycomb.

Otherwise by the time sprint releases 3.0, the new android will be 5.0 Wasp lol

3.0/3.1/3.2 is a version of Android built for tablets only... the next phone version after 2.3 will be "Ice cream sandwhich" which hasn't been released yet.

No sir, this is not official (Not yet anyway, still being worked on.. but def promising!). This is a leak provided to the xda community from SamFirmware.com of the latest build of Gingerbread for the Epic. It's EG22 which means it was built on July 22nd, 2011 (2 days ago). There is instructions in the OP of the thread I linked if you decide to try it... and I'd bet we'll be seeing a how to video on youtube from qbking77 also if that helps you better.

Edit - be careful, this is only a leak and make sure you follow the install correctly.

It's probably pretty damn close to the official. Maybe we're the final guinea pigs. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the official drop by next week. People are reporting good things, including gps and they keyboard. The only bricking problem was because the guy was throwing files where they don't belong in odin and unplugging before it was done. Two things nobody should even think of doing.

Yeah that was basically the reason of my edit, to make sure people be aware to follow things precisely so that no one bricks their phone. Looks good so far though, I'm still running an EF02 custom rom at the moment cuz I can't stand stock that much :)

I find it funny when an op spells out where to place each file...pda, pit, phone and so on. Then someone mentions they're having problems because they placed the pit or modem file in the pda section and what not. It's like, it's spelled out where everything goes, why would you place things elsewhere?

I agree with you, but he was probably just going to fast, and/or not paying attention like he should have been. Im really careful when doing stuff like this, and double check constantly, but I guess others don't.

yep. not worth rushing through a flash. my phone is used for business and the last thing I want to do is activate my Pre or Hero because I f'd up my Epic. I've been tempted to buy a second Epic and ditch the other phones entirely just to keep the current one running and play with the other one. If it's smooth I could just do an esn swap and keep on rolling.

What's pissing me off is that there are phones older and newer getting the GB update way before the Epics. WTF?

been running EG22 for 24 hours now and this build is very very close to final. very smooth and very snappy. battery life is a little better than froyo it seems. gps still seems a little goofy but other than that not one problem at all.

i havent had one missed letter yet using this build. EC05 i was constantly proof reading and fixing all my messages and emails for missed letters lol. but i have read other people are still seeing this issue.
