Mine practically bricked as well, locking up, slowing down, basically unusable. So, I pulled the SD card and everything was fine. Put it back in, same problems. So I backed the SD card up, formatted it, reinserted it and all is good. Had to refresh the apps in a few cases, moved my pictures and music back on the phone, and now it's OK. Gingerbread isn't anything that I would judge worth the pain and time it caused, but at least the phone is working now so I can use it for my daily work and life.
So, give this a try before you reset the phone and lose everything and spend even more time fixing just because Verizon and Moto didn't spend the time to test it out properly.
