    Hi there,

I was wondering if it is possible to give the HTC Hero a network name. For example when i look at my routers status it lists all connected devices. My-PC, Sister-PC ect... and the MAC address of each device, as it should.

However the HTC Hero name field is left blank. I know it is the Hero seeing as the MAC matches the device. Does anyone know if it's possible to give the phone a network name?

    Thank you

    :)

You can't ordinarily, as simply accessing a wireless AP doesn't require a name as it's not actually connecting to the LAN. If you install something like an FTP client or an SMB-aware file manager they'll probably require a device name to identify any shares.

Edit: it might be possible to associate a "friendly name" with a specific MAC at the router end.

Ok no worries, it's not important, but it was worth while asking anyway.

I have noticed that with FroydVillian 1.5 it has a network name of Android-xxxxxxxx (random numbers and letters) although i reverted back to Villian 12 as my camera kept Force quitting and i need the camera to work :).

Anyhow no worries. Thanks for the reply!
