    Hey guys,

I am new here. I am part of a few other forums (my car, home electronics, etc) but have never seen that option to give 'thanks' to someone for their post.

What is the reason for that? Does it simple give the person that receives thanks a higher "ranking" within the forum?

    Just wondering...

  2. Its something called manners, which is slowly being introduced into America. If you like what someone has said, done, offered, you give thanks for it. It might catch on eventually. ;)

yeah just a show of gratitude and also cuts down on the...

    "hey thats cool"

    "awesome man"

    "thanks dude"

    posts...

as far as a measure of rank on a forum, it is just a number, like post count, time signed up, etc.

LOL... i understand that thanks part. But you can also post a message right after saying "thank you" like i did here:

I was more specifically wondering why i saw in some threads that people requested to receive thanks... You shouldn't have to request thanks just like you shouldn't have to ask for respect.

thats cause some people get hung up on their virtual thanks count....just point and laugh at them.

  7. Well, re-introduced..

I've read that back in the 1700s decorum was the order of the day here in the colonies. ;)

It was, but everything went to hell in the 19th century. Personally, I blame the Canadians.

On Topic: I think the thanks button is much better than littering a thread with a bunch of one or two word replies. I think it also speaks volumes as to how much the post was appreciated.
