Gmail alerts not working on LG dynamic

The gmail icon does not show on top edge area of screen for alerts. Does anyone know how I can set it up to show and receive alerts? The gmail icon does show on the regular app screen though Thanks

Within the gmail app settings select the email address & ensure notifications is checked.

Within the main phone settings select apps>all>gmail & ensure that show notifications is checked.
