Help Gmail app name appear in uppercase

Instead of showing 'Gmail' under Gmail icon in my launcher, I see a 'GMAIL' all in uppercase. I don't know why because my girfriend have the exact same phone, but for her, the icon is fine.

Well, I know it's only visual, but if someone have I idea why I have this problem or simply know a solution.

BTW, I'm on KitKat 4.4.2

Which launcher are you using? Is it the same launcher your girlfriend is using?

Android 4.4.2 stock launcher. Same phone, same launcher no customization.

Odd. Have you tried removing it then putting it back on the home screen? How does it look in the app drawer?

Another thought: how did you add it to the screen? There may be a difference if added as a widget rather than a simple shortcut (long press on app in drawer, drag to screen).

Yep, I tried it, but to be more precise it's the app name who is in uppercase, not only the launcher label . I mean, if you look into the app drawer or [Settings] > Applications *> All*, Gmail always displayed in uppercase.

I also did a factory reset (for another problem), but still no fix there.

In that case I have no suggestions other than to remove all Gmail updates (tap GMAIL in the app list in Settings, tap "Uninstall updates") and see what happens. You'll get the updates again anyhow, so it's harmless.

I'd also suggest a reboot after uninstalling the Gmail updates before drawing any conclusions.

I think that maybe my Google Apps APK is corrupted. Do you know if I can sideload a new clean gmail app?

The APK is on the ROM, so I don't see how it could be corrupted on a locked (and unmodified) device. A factory reset would almost certainly fix whatever is wrong but would also remove all user data from the phone so it's a last resort.

You could try clearing the Launcher cache from settings>apps>all>Launcher and see if that helps. If not do the same but for Launcher data. After that... well, zap with a factory reset.

Or you could always just learn to live with GMAIL shouting at you

Has I said earlier, I already tried a factory reset and no result.

In the end, yes, I could live with that... but you know, I tought maybe someone somewhere may have fix for me

Sorry, I missed the factory reset bit for some reason. If it says GMAIL after a reset then you're stuck with it, unless it's one of those oddball language settings things.

Does your phone have exactly the same language settings as the other one?

Yesss sir... it was the language settings... thank you!

In fact, I'm actually set on French(Canada), I tried my GF settings French(France) and English(US) and no problem there.

Maybe I should try to raise an issue to Google about this...
