Gmail - Can I select text in an email?

I can't believe this could be an oversight, surely I'm just missing something. How do I select text in a received email message?

press menu, then more, then select text, now you should be able to select the text you like in green, it will then copy to clipboard.

if not...

fwd the message, select/copy the text and cancel before sending the forwarded email.

its a bit of a work-around but it should work.

Neither of those work. There is no select text option in the menu, and forwarding doesn't let me edit the text (so I can't select it).

I don't see that option either. This has been my biggest disappointment with gmail for Android. Before, I had a Blackberry and assumed this was just a limitation of the BB gmail client (it pretty much sucked). While the Android client is much nicer, there is still no way to select text that I can find.

Mayhaps, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

*Edit* Hrm, doesn't seem to do anything for Gmail. The options haven't changed.

OP: Does the Fascinate have a hard keyboard? I only ask as my Moto Droid running eclair was able to copy text by sliding it open and holding down the shift key with one hand, and highlighting text with the other. If you've got a hard keyboard, it may work for you as well.

Just go into gmail.com on the browser and copy the text from there. Thats been my method whenever I have to copy unlock keys or something from my email...
