Okay, so I have been able to replicate this problem over and over but have not able to fix the issue. Anytime I turn on wifi on my phone and check my gmail account through the gmail app, within 2-3 mins the sync indicator at the top right of the notification bar comes on and stays on. I can then go to settings > sync > gmail and the sync indicator is sitting next to "sync gmail" and it is spinning. I can uncheck and then recheck it and it will go off until I check my email again. I have been doing a lot of research and have not been able find a fix.
