Have you enabled either POP3 or (better) IMAP in your Gmail settings online?

Also try the different security settings. Ssl works on mine for both sending and receiving.

Also - you can try K-9 Mail .... in my view, a much better alternative to the standard (non Gmail) email application.

    Why is K-9 better?
I am interested in finding a better more user friendly email app.

    Thanks

While we're on the subject of mail:

I quite like HTC's mail app, but I don't like the giant mail widget - is there any way to get a 1x1 shortcut widget that just shows the number of unread messages in the corner (like the Messages shortcut does)? The link to Mail doesn't seem to update like that.

Just tried K-9 and it looks cool, but the only widget I found for it was pretty ugly and 2x2. I think I'd be happy with the HTC offering if I could get it to work like Messages does.

I didn't realise you had to change the Pop server and username etc cause it was all sort f hidden by the keypad so make sure to scroll down and change the settings x
