Isn't that just standard behavior, built-in to the phone?

There is an app called gmail notifier, but I have never used it.

PJD if you press menu then settings in the gmail app, you can assign a ringtone without the need for any other app you know?

I did download that Gmail Notifier app and managed to assign a ringtone etc then did a few tests but it did not notify me.
So just wondered if anyone else as downloaded this app and got it to work

I don't use the app, but I get the standard notification with a sound and statusbar icon.

Yeah, in the Gmail app, press menu then settings, and one of the options is picking a ringtone, and you can make it vibrate as well if you want.

I'm possibly stating the obvious here, but you can set a different ringtone so you know whether you've gotten a text or an email without looking.

Notifications can also be affected by syncing options, mobile data being on off, etc.
