Recently, I can't get Gmail to auto complete email addresses.

I used to be able to put in a name or the first letter of an email address and it would fill in the rest. But now this has stopped.

If I try to chose an email address from my address book, then it says this cannot be done and Gmail closes.

    Any way to fix this?

    Thanks

I have not come across that before - still works on all my devices.

Maybe try uninstalling/reinstalling the gmail app (or uninstall updates and then update again if a stock app)

Are you on the latest version of Gmail? If yes, what Android version is on your device?

If Marshmallow, you'll have to specifically allow Gmail access to your contacts for the field to automatically populate.
