Does anyone know how to make Gmail refresh automatically and update new emails in the inbox after a certain amount of time? I assume it's there somewhere but I'm too dumb to find it!

Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> click on your gmail to edit.

    You may need to reboot

Hmmm I don't think I want to auto sync everything though. I think that would keep data going thru the phone and draining battery. I just want the gmail to refresh maybe every 2 hours or so. Anyway I can do that?

Try getting a widget app. They have all sorts of Widgets you can create so you don't have to dig into the settings.
I have a widget for sync. I go to my home screen , press the widget to enable sync. After 30 sec. I turn it off. I'm synced.
I don't know if there's one that will allow for a " set the profile and forget it" though. Anytime you allow an app that much control they want more permission(control of actual phone functions) .

Just turn your data on and off. If you are worried about your battery and syncing your account, get a switch that turns your data on and off. Problem solved

Quicksettings will let you shut off auto sync OR data.

I mean I use the power widget to control my data, but I don't understand how to make Gmail sync at regular intervals. I want to be able to have my Gmail sync every 30 minutes or 2 hours or whatever, not synching every second of the day. Right now it only syncs when I go to the app and refresh it. I'm pretty sure it used to be possible but I can't find anything in the settings that would change this.

This may answer your question: http://androidforums.com/sprint-her...-email-sync-download-frequency.html#post75324

It appears gmail is pushed, your phone isn't checking for mail at any interval, it simply arrives.

Your regular mail, via the normal email app, can be set to certain intervals. And I suppose, if you want, you can get your gmail (Imap, pop) through your regular mail and then schedule that email check.
