I am a UK resident going to France for a couple of weeks for my son's wedding! I am with Vodafone and have got their Euro traveller thing for the trip. I will pay

If you're using wifi only you shouldn't be charged.

to turn mobile data (cellular data) off go to
settings/data usage/ turn mobile data off. This will keep it from trying to do any data related task unless you're on Wifi

to change clock
settings/data and time. Uncheck both automatic options which will then un grey the option for you to manually set it.
