Help Google Assistant Turning down volume when plugged in

OK so recently - as in over the last week - when I plug my V20 into the car head unit google assistant keeps coming up wanting me to enable use with a headset - and then it seems to randomly take over things even though I have Google Assistant set to OFF.

So I have device plugged in with headphone cord - 2 wire not 3 - or rather 2 contact not 3.

playing either jet audio or spotify.

works ok for a while I set the volume up to about 60 because using a headunit
plays fine and then volume drops to 50 or more often drops to 10 or less.
occasionally mutes
occasionally skips tracks
will volume up and then back down again.

and beep/dings quite a few times in a row.

Complete and total PITA.

Anyone else have these issues.

POST NOTE - today I noticed it went track up happy when my radar detector went off. I have google assistant set to off still.

It's a pain.

I tired clearing data and cache.

still does it.

I noticed it seems to do it more often when maps is running. And I noticed a new maps update yesterday. So I'll test some more.

Nobody else has this issue?

I've had my volume move on me a few times when I didn't want it to. Not sure what's causing it. But nothing like what you describe. And it sounds like Google is the issue.

so few updates to Google, Maps, and spotify in the last week. and more than one instance of updates to google - seems to have helped but not fully fixed my issue.

far less dramatic than before but it did happen twice this morning. Now it mostly changes tracks or pauses more so than moving the volume. And far far less frequent.

Thought I would post again.

issue persists - gets worse when I have maps running also. Only happens in the car - plugged in (I don't have bluetooth in my headunit).

I have turned off google assistant - and it continues to come up and interrupt or change songs or move the volume.

Does anyone else have this issue - or issues like it?

I have an issue that may be related... I just posted about it, but here it in a nutshell.

Got Google Assistant recently. Now, occasionally I get no audio upon returning to my car when I try to resume music. Music is playing tho, I see progress bar moving. Phone is not on silent mode or anything, but no app can play sound.

Rebooting phone fixes.

does trying to adjust the volume up with the rocker switch on the side help at all? I have issues where google assistant (or whatever) will set the volume all the way down to mute on media playback.

I do have to say something has changed recently though - Monday I went back through turning off google assistant (which I don't want to do mind you) and so far no erratic operations when plugged into the headphone jack.

I can't speculate as to why though.

so last round of updates with Google system, google play, spotify, jet audio, and the like (updated of the last 3 weeks for me)

seems to have fixed this issue. I've been afraid to post about it simply because I just knew it would come back.

I don't use Google Assistant, nor any other voice assistant ... and I don't have this problem.
I don't use Google Maps when driving, only WAZE.

However, in the car ... when the Radar Detector (Valentine 1) alerts me for Laser Detection ... the phone will stop playing anything that's on from Spotify to SiriusXM to downloaded music or podcast.

Thankfully that doesn't happen too often - and in the few places (toll booths) where I travel frequently, I'm used to it happening and will be ready to hit play once free of the lasers that set off the radar detector.

V20 on Verizon - stock.

I have a Galaxy S9+ and I have the very same "turning down volume when plugged in" issue although all my Google apps are up to date and now it is 2020 february. It is very annoying during jogging and music on. Any idea?
