all the contacts on my phone are sync'd from my google contacts...does that mean if i travel overseas with no internet access, i won't be able to access my contacts? does it retrieve my contacts from the internet every time i access them, or is there a local copy on the phone?

should i copy all my contacts to sim as well? i played around with it all when i first got my phone and ended up having 2 of everything, so i deleted everything and just kept my google contacts

i really don't know how it's meant to work

Google contacts are synced to and fro between your phone and google.
Syncing means that the data exists at both places. You will be able to access your contacts even without any connection.
