When Goggles first came out, it was a great idea with potential but not that useful in practice.
With the latest version, though that potential has wowed a lot of people. Being able to take a picture of a logo and get the company history from Wikipedia or other related information is pretty cool. Far more impressive though, is taking a picture of a few words on a French menu and getting back the name of the dish in English in seconds.
But that's just this version. Imagine what's going to happen when this image recognition technology gets even better(and Google are working on it)
Imagine being able to watch a video on YouTube and thinking 'that phone looks cool', clicking on it and being able to buy it. I'm pretty sure that that's Google's big-picture idea for this technology.
Sounds pretty cool, huh? Well, for now you'll just have to deal with being limited to instantly translating menus and signs anywhere where you've an internet connection, which isn't so bad.
