Google Goggles and the Eris

Google has released a Search by Sight application using the camera to detect and search!

Search By Sight With Google Goggles

Unfortunately the fine print reads "Available on phones that run Android 1.6+ (i.e. Donut or Eclair)" so we'll have to wait until the 2010 update that @HTC promised. Still pretty exciting technology here! Maybe by the time we get it, the bugs will be worked out. It's a labs product still after all.

It's a pretty cool feature to play around with , I got to say though I feel bad for those still stuck with 1.5 {cupcake}. Google , service providers , manufacters etc should all be pushing this forward so users can take full advantage of what Android has to offer!

Well, HTC confirmed that the update is coming. Hope they can make or beat their deadline so we can try this out!

The part in the demo where Google Goggles identified the wine bottle as John Connor was a little over the top!

My Eris says that I have 1.7, but I still can't find Google Goggles in the Marketplace? Anyone ever figure this out or am I looking at the wrong number?

Your OS is 1.5. Your software version is 1.17.something after the latest update. Two separate things.

I heard about this app a few months ago and thought it was neat. Seeing this again makes me angry instead of anxious at how long 2.x is taking. When buying the phone in late-November, I heard early 2010, but I guess reading more and more devices with it just made me jumpy and now I want it now.

What if this whole time we think HTC is working on it, but they haven't even started it yet, waiting til the very last day of Q1, whenever that is? Are you mad now?

There is still that rumored update on 1/22 floating around. They have until the end of March before I get the least bit annoyed.
