Google Maps and Nav

I'm still curious about what potential lies ahead for Maps and Navigation.
Will there be more options for the turn-by-turn voice character? The fembot that's there now sounds more synthetic than other GPS I've heard, and the voice sounds distorted with certain words.

Sometime the maps search has been frustrating. I could only remember the street name for one destination. I couldn't remember if it was "road", "street", "ave" etc. I kept trying to type in just the street name and maps would give me like one search result for a city on the other side of the world. Often on the Droid I feel like it could give more search results. It will say "Did you mean?" and list one option - a button for "no" would be nice so it could try a different search.

I still don't understand how to best organize my personal maps, and locations that I frequent (for example, sometimes I'm out in a new area and want to use Nav to get me to a friend's house that I go to often).

I'm trying to wrap my head around this stuff. I want to be able to mark locations easily, make notes/reviews about them and integrate "my maps", "where i've been", "places i've been" and stuff like "foursquare" and "yelp".

This is all new to me, and I'm guessing Google Maps + GPS is pretty new to anyone. Let me know if you have any tips or insight into the implications of all this.

I guess another summarized question would be:
How can I add info about "My Location" that will add to the collective Google database?

It would be great to be able to do this and simultaneously update Foursquare and Yelp.

I also don't understand everything about Layar and if it could be integrated somehow as well.

I'm trying to imagine what things would be like if Google bought Foursquare, Yelp and Layar.

    Oh yeah, and hiking GPS.

Could the Droid be loaded with a wilderness map that could be used in an emergency. I say emergency because the battery doesn't last long enough to use as a navigation tool the way portable GPS devices can.

This relates to another question I have about manually downloading google maps for offline use for safety. Like if I'm making a cross country trip and want a map of just the route and say gas stations layer, could I potentially download that info and always have it even if I loose 3G?
