They've included 5 experimental labs to play with:
1. Scale bar on map for distance
2. Terrain layer
3. Popular categories
4. Layer button (onscreen button)
5. Compass arrow

Had to do a battery pull and restart to get a GPS lock. Otherwise all is good. Looks like new toys to play with!

The Popular searches is really nice - saves time/typing.

Windows Live Search had that feature on my BB, adding to Gmaps is a real plus...

then you have to check each option you want

Took 30+ seconds to load up up. So it maybe doing stuff in the background while you think its not loading.

EDIT: Got to "What's new in Maps?" Screen, but unable to load anything after. A restart does nothing. This is ridiculous.

Does anyone know how to calibrate the compass? It's definitely not right on mine - shows south when I'm facing west etc.

I let it sit there for 5 minutes and it just reports "Data connection lost, retrying..." over and over.

Check the comments in the market -- you will see a lot of people with the same problem.

After a half hour, it magically resolved itself. I decided to pull up the app and instantly, it was there. Try this:

1. Do a factory reset.
2. If you have any Task Killer app installed, or an antivirus app installed uninstall it.
3. Update to latest maps.

I was using Look Out antivirus and ATK, and I'm thinking they had something to do with the proper installation going wrong.
