For some reason I can not get my google account to receive numbers from my droids phonebook. If I add a number on my google email and sync my phone the number is there immediately, but if the number is added on my phone google does not get it in gmail. What can I do to fix this?

This has been discussed before. If you're adding new contacts, make sure to choose to put it under google account and not your phone account. That contact will then sync to your google account.

How do I do that? I already have my list of contacts on the phone from backup assistant. How do I tell it to back those up to google?

OK I got it working, for any of you out there wondering how, here is what you do:
take the contacts (the ones that are saved on "phone”) export them to your SD card, then import them back this time to "Google". Once you are done, click "menu", "view", check "phone" (only), and delete your duplicate contacts (which you just moved to "Google"
